Istanbul Chamber of Industry Odakule Mirror Stretch Ceiling

Client: AKAS Yapı

Mirror stretch ceiling at the entrance of the Odakule building

Project overview

In this corporate project delivered for AKAS Yapı, a mirror stretch ceiling was installed in the entrance hall and management floors of Odakule, one of İstiklal Avenue's landmark buildings. The ultra-lightweight mirror panel system gave the entrance hall a modern, reflective surface without touching the historic building's structure.

Case study

What made this project hard?

01

Challenge

Odakule is one of the landmark buildings on İstiklal Avenue and an operating institutional headquarters. In a historic building, adding load to the existing structural system is undesirable, and any intervention is expected to be reversible. At the same time, the entrance hall and management floors needed a surface quality matching the weight of what the institution represents.

02

Approach

Because the glass-free panel system weighs 1–1.8 kg per square metre — one-thirtieth of a traditional glass mirror — it added no meaningful load to the structure. We used a dry installation method: the system can be dismantled and reinstalled, requiring no permanent intervention to the building.

03

Outcome

A 170 m² reflective surface was installed across the entrance hall and management floors, achieving a contemporary look befitting the institution's standing without touching the historic building's character.
